Overseas Program

Program Summary

The Chinese Overseas Flagship program provides undergraduate students enrolled at Chinese Flagship institutions an opportunity for intensive, fully immersive, professional language training and development, as well as direct enrollment at Nanjing University. The program offers a comprehensive study of all aspects of contemporary Chinese life and culture. This exciting academic-year-long program is conducted entirely in Chinese in Nanjing, China. The program is hosted by the Institute of International Students at Nanjing University, affording Flagship students access to courses and academic resources at one of China's most respected universities. The Chinese Overseas Flagship program is jointly administered by American Councils for International Education and Brigham Young University's Chinese Flagship Center.

Student Advising and On-Site Support

Chinese Overseas Flagship students are required to take part in an online pre-departure orientation, as well as an in-country orientation upon their arrival in Nanjing.  In collaboration with BYU, American Councils provides on-site student support coordinators and a center director, who work closely with the Washington, DC-based program manager and administrative staff.  U.S.-based American Councils and Language Flagship administrative staff are available to assist current and prospective students throughout the year. All students receive accident and illness insurance through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI), and 24/7 assistance is provided by Nanjing-based American Councils program staff.

Domestic Flagship Applicants

Students who are enrolled at one of the domestic Chinese Flagship programs, reach the required proficiency level in Chinese, and complete the prior study abroad requirements are accepted to the Overseas Program, upon recommendation of the Chinese Flagship Project Directors Council.
